ABOUT
Andres Zagursky is a Mexican-American visual artist whose explorations in drawing and painting capture the intersection of cultural heritage and contemporary expression. Based in San Diego, California, his distinctive approach emerges through intricate sketchbook work, where he blends doodles, line drawings, and journalistic elements with polished black-and-white and color compositions. Working across mediums, including digital art, Andres uses sketchbooks not only as spaces for experimentation but also as platforms for completed artworks, particularly in his explorations of figures and imaginative creatures that evoke personal and collective experiences.
Growing up straddling two rich cultures, Andres developed a profound appreciation for his Mexican roots and American upbringing. His work often reflects a dialogue between these worlds.
During his early education, Andres delved into forms of artistic expression beyond the visual arts, including piano. This multidisciplinary background has infused his drawings and paintings with a sense of rhythm and harmony that continues to inform his visual storytelling.
At The Bishop’s School, Andres’s artistic contributions have made significant impacts. His work was selected to represent the school’s holiday card fundraising campaign, and his pieces have helped support the school’s scholarship fund during the Bishop’s Annual Gala. Andres’ art has contributed to humanitarian causes, such as raising funds for Ukrainian relief efforts and San Diego’s homeless community, reflecting his commitment to using art as a vehicle for positive change.
Dedicated to refining his skills and expanding his work, Andres continues to be influential through exhibitions, collaborations, and community engagements in the visual arts landscape.
